D.R. Evarts Library in Athens will hold its election of trustees and library budget vote on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the Athens Firehouse, 39 Third St., Athens, from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. The purpose of the vote is to approve the 2021 budget of $133,151.27, which is an increase of 2% or $2,610.81, over last year and elect six trustees to the board.
Trustees have the unique opportunity to contribute to a beloved center of the Athens community. Trustees support the smooth operation of the Library through communication with our Library staff and community, creation of policies, support of programming and fiscal management. Library Trustees have additional responsibilities as we progress through the Ramp Up the Evarts campaign and accessibility projects. Trustees act as both community representatives and advocates for the Library Community. It is a vibrant and dedicated group.
To secure a place on the ballot, interested individuals are required to submit petitions to the library no later than October 20th. Each petition must be signed by at least 18 qualified voters in the library district. For more information about becoming a trustee or requesting a petition, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Registered voters who reside in the town of Athens and the Coxsackie-Athens or Cairo-Durham School Districts are eligible to vote and run for election.
