Library Business & Updates

Winter Clothing Drive

D. R. Evarts Library is having a Winter Clothing Drive starting on Monday, January 20 and running until Saturday, January 25!

In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., we are looking to help those in our community who are in need during the winter season. The library will be collecting new and lightly used winter clothing to donate to local charitable organizations such as Community Action of Greene County.

Please stop by during any of our operating hours next week and our friendly staff will collect the winter items.

Stay safe and warm this weekend!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The D. R. Evarts Library will be open for special Holiday Hours on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20!  The library will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

In honor of the spirit and message of Dr. King, the Library will have craft tables geared towards giving back to our community.

We will also be kicking off our week long warm clothing drive. Bring any new or lightly used cold weather gear: socks, winter hats, gloves/mittens, scarves or even old sweaters and jackets.  All items will be donated to local shelters, charity organizations and food banks.

Events for the day:

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  : Make your own dog and cat toys to donate to Animal Shelters

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. : Board games and group games

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. : Making Healthy Snacks

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. : Toy Story 4 with popcorn and refreshments

All Day: Community Dream Cloud Project

All Day : Open Arts & Crafts Tables

All Day: Warm Clothing Drive

We will have tables setup with craft supplies to make animal toys for local shelters such as Animal Kind. If you have a little critter at home, we will have enough supplies to make one for you to take home to them as well!

We also will be making a community “Dream Cloud.” A craft project for all ages, the community Dream Cloud allows for individuals to show through words and/or art, their dream for themselves and for the community of Athens. These dreams will be put on display here at the library.

On top of that, we will be making some snacks downstairs before we watch Toy Story 4. Popcorn and light refreshments will be included.

Craft supplies will be made available all day, so whatever time you stop by, you’ll be able to scratch that creative itch!

Fine Free Library

As of January 1st, 2020, the D. R. Evarts Library is officially a Fine Free Library. This means that all late fees have been removed from every item in our collection.

No more nickel and diming our patrons for an item being a day or two late. All we ask is that you are respectful of other patrons and our materials and bring them back one you’re done!

Damage and replacement charges will still be charged to your account. This policy does not extend to other libraries collection items.

On top of that, we will be providing amnesty to any old charges and fines. As long as you bring the items back, we will waive all old charges so that we can all start of 2020 fresh!

Any questions? Please call 518-945-1417 or email director@drevartslibrary.org

We had so much fun playing with our baby chicks at STEM program. Seven chicks of different varieties were the stars of the STEM program last month. So much fun watching them grow! We also used air pressure to make some creative movable boxes and cranes!

We’ve got more great projects and experiments coming in January at Children’s STEM!

Stop by on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. to experience all the fun!
